Vi launches industry-first Family IR proposition to deliver a worry-free international travel experience

Mumbai: With outbound travel from India growing rapidly, Vi, a telecom operator, has unveiled an industry-first Family International Roaming (IR) proposition offering special IR pack discounts for secondary members on Family Postpaid plans. The new offering is designed to make global travel more affordable and seamless for families during the peak holiday season.

India’s appetite for international travel continues to rise. As per the India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 by the Ministry of Tourism, outbound travel grew 10.79% year-on-year, with 30.89 million Indians travelling abroad in 2024. Family travel remains a dominant trend, with industry reports indicating that 59% of Indians travel with their spouse or partner, and 26% travel with family members.

Recognising this shift toward family-led global travel, Vi has introduced its first-ever Family IR proposition—bringing exclusive discounts and enhanced benefits for families who want uninterrupted connectivity abroad. With Vi being the only operator currently offering Truly Unlimited Data & Calling on International Roaming, customers can stay connected without limits while overseas.

Vi, which has one of India’s largest bases of postpaid and family postpaid customers, is offering special IR pack savings for secondary members under its Family Postpaid plans.
Under the new proposition:

• Secondary members on Vi Family Postpaid plans will receive 10% discount on IR packs
• REDX Family users will enjoy a 25% discount on IR packs
• Discounts are applicable on 10-day, 14-day, and 30-day IR packs, starting at Rs 2,999

Vi Family Postpaid plans start at Rs 701, accommodating 2 to 5 members. Vi customers can also add up to 8 secondary members to their postpaid account at just Rs 299 per member.

Vi recently launched its REDX Family Plan priced at Rs 1601 per month for two members, offering equal access to unlimited data, IR benefits, and premium services. The plan includes four complimentary airport lounge visits per year, a 7-day IR pack worth Rs 2,999 annually, and a 25% annual discount worth Rs 750 on a second IR pack.

In another first, Vi has partnered with Aditya Birla Health Insurance to introduce a Rs 40 lakh travel insurance cover at just Rs 285 with all Vi IR packs. The insurance offers comprehensive protection including:

• Medical emergencies & hospitalization
• Medical evacuation
• Lost or delayed baggage
• Trip interruptions

The coverage is valid for a single international trip and ensures families can travel with peace of mind.

To further enhance the travel experience, Vi has partnered with Blue Ribbon Bags to offer delayed baggage protection. At Rs 99, Vi Postpaid IR customers can claim Rs 19,800 per bag (up to two bags) in case of delay or loss.
