Kingdom Come State Park is an awe-inspiring destination on the crest of Pine Mountain in Cumberland, Kentucky.
With an elevation of 2,700 feet and several scenic overlooks, it’s truly one of the most beautiful places in our state.
Situated atop Pine Mountain, this stunning 1,283-acre park has a rich history. It was named after the novel The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come, a Civil War novel written by Kentucky resident John Fox Jr. in 1903, and became a state park in 1961. Fascinating!
Yet for whatever reason, it remains one of the most criminally unappreciated parks in Kentucky.
Because truly, this Kentucky State Park is sure to become an instant favorite the moment you arrive.

The park has eight overlooks, by the way, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to gaze out at the seemingly endless scenic vistas here!
There are 14 hiking trails that crisscross nearly five miles of rugged mountain terrain at Kingdom Come State Park, providing intrepid explorers the opportunity to explore the park’s giant rock formations and scenic overlooks. All of the trails are fairly short in length (under a mile), but many routes can be combined for hikes of varying lengths and difficulty.

Prefer some time on the water? Rent a pedal boat and cruise around the 3.5-acre lake, taking in the lovely landscape that surrounds you.

Regular primitive campsites come equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and access to restrooms. Lakeside campsites are also available and you really can’t beat the views!
